Baby Violet - {Newborn Portraits}

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

i can't believe it's been over a year since this little cutie was born, and i NEVER blogged this adorable newborn!  this is my sweet niece, and one of my favorite newborn sessions.  (not just because she is my sweet niece, but because she was the easiest baby!)

this first shot was just a fluke, she was laying on this blanket while i set up my backdrop, and there were these blocks laying around.  i found what i needed and took a test shot.  then, my little helpers Charlie and Colin took the blocks and i could never spell here name again!

 but the rest of the session was a dream, with a dreamy baby.

4 Tips for Photographing a "Pin-able" Look {Photography for Fashion Bloggers}

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

What to wear? is the most popular question asked of any portrait photographer.  But a popular question these days is also, "How do I photograph what I'm wearing?"  With fashion blogs on the rise, and ready Pinterest devotees (like me) getting wardrobe ideas online, fashion bloggers are wondering how to photograph themselves and their outfits in new, fresh, flattering, and of course "pin-able" ways.  (Did I just make up a word?)

I have had the pleasure of working several times with the lovely ladies over at The Sisters in the City blog.  (Corbynn is my sister.)   This last collaboration, I decided to share some of the photography tips I've given them.
1) Set the scene:  pull back shots are great to give flavor to the outfit you're highlighting.  Here, this perfectly adorable swimsuit was just dying to be photographed in a poolside resort.  (my backyard was serving as Corbynn's resort from the cold and snow of Chicago.)

 2) Get every angle:  Make sure you take shots of every angle to show off all the great details of your outfit.  This suit is made to be seen from behind!

 3) Don't be shy:  If you're a fashion blogger, you definitely have to shirk off any self-consciousness you may feel.  No one is comfortable just walking around in their bathing suit, but again if there was ever a suit with a cute back, this is it!

 4) Details, details, details:  Of course you must highlight every detail of your outfit, but don't forget to add special little touches to make  your shoot pop.  Here, Corbynn and I decided this vintage coke was perfect, and note the sweet little polka dot straw!

Michaela + Ty: married, part II The Wedding! {Gilbert Wedding Photographer}

Monday, April 22, 2013

This beautiful couple was sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple, one week after their adorable first look session.  They had a huge group of family and friends congratulating them on their big day. To say their wedding day was lovely is an understatement.  They had great weather, fantastic decor, and and amazingly beautiful and fun wedding party.

Michaela + Ty: married, part 1 the first look {Gilbert Wedding Photographer}

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

a few days before they said "i do", Michaela and Ty had a first look session.  this is a decision i like to discuss thoroughly with couples at our initial meeting.  a first look is a great time to get beautiful and unique bridal portraits.  away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding day, couples can have a peaceful moment to themselves to see each other for the first time in their wedding attire.

traditionalists, never fear, great bridal portraits can and will happen on your wedding day as well.  but a pre-wedding bridal sessions gives you an amount of control you won't have on your big day.  in this case, we got a beautiful private location at the optimal time of the day, with no obligations to family or guests.

here Ty waited patiently to see his beautiful bride for the first time:

 i have learned to be pretty forceful during these sessions.  i've had brides and grooms get over anxious and turn around to soon, or rush to the first look without capturing each blissfully sweet moment.

 by the time of the reveal, these two had some cute moments to cherish. and it was worth the wait.
